About this deal

Minimalism is not for Jean-Louis Deniot, nor is excess. Balance and osmosis is what he creates, offsetting the sometimes rigid facet of architecture with an inmost vision of refinement, comfort and openness making his creations around the world havens to revel in. For him, style equates lifestyle – it must promote harmony and wellbeing. A great enthusiast of iconic designs, his decors feature no shortage of arresting materials and textures tempered with subtle color palettes, muted tones and impeccable lighting. At the crossroads between classical terminology and contemporary aesthetics, Jean-Louis Deniot’s interiors are serene, elegant and dramatic as awash with nods to other time periods, yet never typical or literal.

Everything has been treated with dark finishes to immerse the visitor instantly in an atmosphere that remains rigorously the same both day and night. I borrowed my palette from the colors of the Parisian sky at dusk, with rich, moody tones of gray, blue and green. The stormy-sky mural painted by artist Mathias Kiss in the stair hall. I really enjoy the juxtaposition of Kiss’s abstract treatment on top of the original building’s rather academic 19th-century design. It loosens up the formal structure. The mural makes the original architecture all but disappear, opening up the confined space into something that feels limitless and boundless. It’s a poetic way to bring guests up to their private quarters. The Antique Accoutrement Parisian apartments have unique architectural details, you can see in the projects below that the french interior designer, Jean-Louis Deniot, respects and emphasise the beauty and the uniqueness of those details and add his special touch. His own employees are certainly well accommodated, as illustrated by another project in the book — Deniot’s own offices, located in a 4,300-square-feet space directly on the Left Bank of the Seine, close to the Invalides, that had formerly housed a firm of notaries. He completely reconfigured the space, creating an elegant enfilade of rooms separated by a succession of wired-glass doors whose watery appearance is meant as a direct reference to the river below. Deniot says he wanted to create the “least decorated space” possible. By that, he means no rugs, few patterns and little in the way of architectural detailing. However, the rooms are certainly not spare. In a hallway, a Hans Hartung lithograph hangs above an Angelo Mangiarotti console table with a 16th-century bust on it. The library features a 1930s Bauhaus daybed and a pair of Robert Mallet-Stevens armchairs, while a lounge-like meeting room is decorated with a pair of Piet Hein Eek armchairs, a side table by Philippe Hiquily, a Sol LeWitt flag, a Jacques Quinet desk, a marble bust of Juno and a couple of Gio Ponti chests of drawers. A different vintage chair, meanwhile, has been placed for guests in the office of each of Deniot’s team members. Left: The entryway features a custom desk of Deniot’s own design, which is topped with an Ettore Sottsass Bay table lamp. It also includes a set of four 1940s chairs covered in Bisson Bruneel fabric, a bronze console by Ado Chale and a Baghdad table lamp by Mathieu Matégot. Right: In the library are a pair of Mallet-Stevens armchairs and a 1930s Bauhaus daybed. In the salon, a bronze table by Ado Chale is topped with 19th-century Etruscan pieces and a Wedgwood urn, and a pair of Louis XVI chairs are covered in a Zimmer & Rohde velvet; the 17th-century giltwood mirror is flanked by bronze Empire sconces, the Sputnik-style chandelier is from the 1950s, the rug is Moroccan, and the wall panels are painted in Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore. Pascal Chevallier Jean-Louis Deniot is no stranger to the spotlight when it comes to interior design. His emblematic interiors reflect a strong character, blending textures and styles to create a compelling atmosphere. Today, we will dive into the story and projects of this fascinating interior designer and understand how he combines rigorous analytical training with a natural sense of aesthetics. Featured on the ELLE Decor and AD 100 lists of the world’s preeminent talents in architecture and interior design, Jean-Louis Deniot has long been in the business of creating atmospheres. His décors are his playground, spaces where spontaneity and magic are de rigueur. Recognized worldwide for his eclectic and emblematic interiors, Jean-Louis Deniot plays in a multiplicity of repertoires, letting his academic training translate into a vocabulary that is both informal and bold. Jean-Louis Deniot carried the leafy ambience outside his country home into its entry, with green Lelièvre mohair velvet upholstery on the 18th-century Portuguese settee and early-18th-century wrought-iron plant stands from Spain. The French lantern overhead is mid-19th century.David Bensoussan, "Des French décorateurs sans frontières", Challenges, France, July-August 2011, p.89 November 20, 2022“Very early on in my career, I made it a personal challenge to work in as many locations as possible,” recounts French interior designer Jean-Louis Deniot in his recently published monograph, Destinations ( Rizzoli), written by Pamela Golbin.

In addition, I placed sculptures and ceramics on the rooms’ armoires, which I designed as traveling trunks, giving the impression that the pieces displayed on top came straight to Paris as souvenirs gathered on trips to South Africa, Greece and Japan, just as they might have in a private home rather than a hotel. Inspired by the things surrounding him, the culture and memories, he creates a project combining history and the modern. This way Jean-Louis Deniot achieves what he defines as a good design, a timeless design. The genius of his line of thought led him to feature in Architectural’s Digest 100, an important event for every interior designer. Jean-Louis Deniot Projects in Paris
